Lost

No, not the TV show, but our daughter! Josh took Ellie to the D-backs game on Saturday, a daddy-daughter date that she had been looking forward to literally for months. After a little while of watching the game they headed to the playground/batting cages area with my nephew where Josh was standing in-between watching them both. After a while, Josh noticed he hadn't seen Ellie in the twisty playground tunnels recently enough, went to find her and found both her and the shoes she had previously removed gone. Gone. Not just around the corner, barely out of sight...gone. Panic then ensued. They found a security guard, were told to head to customer relations and right about then discovered via the walkie-talkie that an Ellie with her dad's name Josh had been found and was waiting at customer relations. I was so impressed to hear that she could at least tell them her name and her dad's...and SO glad this was not my experience. I think I would have been a hysterical mess, unable to think at all what to do, overcome with terror. Thank you Josh for finding her.

If you ask her now about the experience she's almost proud, probably because it has made her very popular and overly hugged/kissed. She likes to tell the story of how she was lost and even for a newly turned 3 year old has developed an uncanny ability for embellishment (can't imagine where she gets it....a Neville trait, surely :) ) Perhaps her favorite part to tell was what her daddy let her have for dinner..."lem nems." (translation...M&M's)

It's one of those stories she'll be able to brag about to her friends when she gets older--how she once was lost but now is found. For the time being we're just grateful to have her safely in our home and look forward to a day when we can relate those night's events without complete horror.

Happy Birthday Ellie!

I'm........ten!

no, one...

Uh, how old am I? I'm THREE!!!

Jonah has this same problem. I guess my kids just aren't very dexterous. Yesterday we celebrated with Josh's family and on the way home Jonah was noticing that in the sunset the clouds were pink. "Why are the clouds pink?" he asked.

"Why do you think, Jonah?" (I was curious what he'd come up with...and okay so I don't exactly know why the clouds were pink!)

"They must have known it was Ellie's birthday," said Jonah in all seriousness. This, of course, because Ellie's obsessed with all things pink. What a sweet brother.

More pictures to come...

Recent Discoveries

#1 I am no longer a young buck who can stay up until 1 AM without serious repercussions. This was my discovery this morning when Jonah, then Ellie, came pulling on my arm desperate to tear me from the comfort of my bed in hopes of a little breakfast to solace their hunger.

#2 The end chairs are significantly cooler than the middle ones. So much so that Jonah will go to great lengths to snatch one up by switching Char's end chair for his middle chair (this is after he's already fought and lost a battle to Ellie for the first end chair), resulting in one miffed rising terror.

Speaking of said terror...some more discoveries.

#3 Food is not for sustenance but for creative discovery. I can no longer expect, upon seeing an empty bowl, that Char is now full of yummy goodness.

#4 "B" is the most important letter in Charlotte's name. Not there, you say? I beg to differ...

Binky, blanky, bear, bear...

...banana

All whilst perched on our kitchen table, where she can be found most hours of the day (and I'm only mildly exaggerating). More proof.

Bippity, boppity, boo was the game of choice here.

Busy

I've been busy losing my head the past few weeks. It's sad enough to be busy, but then to be busy and not actually accomplish much...that's the real tragedy. A few examples.

Saturday I forgot my violin. Three quarters of the way to our destination (a performance at the MAC) and I realize my case never made it to the car. Thank goodness for brother-in-laws who save the day with 10 minutes to spare.

Thursday I forgot Cub Scouts. My partner called me up 20 minutes after 4:00 wondering if I was coming. Not only did I forget, but I was busy being so proud of myself for preparing dinner earlier that day and now cooking it all up 20 minutes after 4:00 so that we'd have plenty of time to get to Jonah's first soccer practice at 5:30.

I've forgotten to arrange a nursery for ward choir...again. Every now and then I entertain the thought of asking to be released from just one of my three callings until I remember that I wasn't any better with just one.

Every day I forget to do the things that absolutely have to get done--like laundry, dishes, baths, etc. Somehow those little darlings are just so distracting.

So by now I get it; busyness is inevitable. But for reals...can someone please teach me that productive kind of busyness??? It does exist, or doesn't it???

Never screaming

Or is that "Never!" and "Screaming!" I guess punctuation makes all the difference or at least it does in this case. Unfortunately the latter words/actions have been swimming around our house for a while now.

Halloween fever came early this year and what a bum deal that has been. I took the kids to get their costumes and of course they are enamored with them. Not such a big deal until Ellie decided she wasn't going to shed her costume for bed time and even secretly sneaked upstairs, putting herself to bed, costume in tact. Still not a big deal except she's not quite potty trained through the night and refused to do her tinkles. So I wake her up a few hours later to do tinkles and think I'll get away with getting her costume off as well. She's dead asleep and probably won't even notice, right? Wrong, dead wrong. She set off running and screaming through the house, "Never!" and other such obscenities. I guess some fights these kids are just meant to win by sheer will if nothing else.
